Mondi has partnered with Ovoko, an online marketplace for car parts, to co-create packaging to meet the demands of its e-commerce supply chain.
Companies selling automotive spare parts online need specialized packaging solutions for large and fragile components, according to the companies.
One of the challenges has been shipping car bumpers. The previous packaging was costly and delivered insufficient protection, resulting in product damage and additional operational effort.
In response, Mondi adapted a heavy-duty solution from its automotive portfolio, designing the packaging to the bumper’s geometry. The packaging aims to reduce empty space and cut material use.

Dawid Galusiński, e-commerce sales manager at Mondi Group, says: “In e-commerce, it is not only the speed of delivery that matters, but the safety of the product throughout the logistics chain. For large and demanding items such as car bumpers, well-designed packaging ensures the product reaches the customer in perfect condition and helps build lasting customer trust.”
Cost reduction
The solution is said to achieve a 42% reduction in unit packaging costs, enhanced operational efficiency, and more responsible material use. The solution was tested under real-life conditions and the first trial order was delivered within two weeks.
Agnius Skudutis, packaging project manager at Ovoko, says: “We needed packaging that was simple to assemble, cost-effective, and tough enough to protect everything we ship. Mondi listened to our needs and proposed a solution that allowed us to reduce packaging costs while improving product protection.”
Dmitrijus Curkinas, regional sales manager at Mondi Poland, comments: “Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one. By adapting a proven packaging concept, we were able to quickly deliver a reliable and cost-efficient corrugated packaging solution that met Ovoko’s needs.”
Last year, Mondi partnered with Polish bicycle manufacturer Polana Bikes to co-develop a packaging solution that aims to improve the shipping and storing of high-end bikes while creating a user-friendly unboxing experience.
Earlier, Mondi secured a €95 million (US$103.4 million) investment at its Świecie containerboard mill in Poland, which increased its kraftliner capacity by 55,000 tons.
