Origin Materials has partnered with HP Embalagens, a Brazil-based thermoformed packaging company, to scale PET bottle caps in the Latin American market.
According to Origin Materials, its PET 1881 caps represent a “technological breakthrough” that can enable lighter packaging and better product barrier, improving shelf life.
The technology and materials company explains that, unlike injection-molded or compression-molded caps, Origin PET caps can be made with full PCR material and used in food-grade applications.
John Bissell, CEO at Origin Materials, says: “We are excited to partner with HP Embalagens. Our strategic relationship immediately extends our market reach in South America, opening the door for significant growth in the region.”
“We look forward to working together as we bring our PET caps to HP Embalagens’ major customers.”
Measurable impact
In the partnership, HP Embalagens will purchase PET caps from Origin Materials for sale and distribution at its customer base in Latin America, with an emphasis on Brazil. It works with brands such as Nestlé, Ferrero Rocher, Natura, and Johnson & Johnson.
Felipe Souza, purchasing and new business director at HP Embalagens, says: “At HP Embalagens, our growth strategy centers on innovation, sustainability, and measurable impact. “
“Our selection of Origin Materials to supply PET caps reflects our belief that consumers are ready for something new and better. The packaging industry has long sought a PET cap, and now Origin is making it a reality.”
The company launched the production of PET caps at its manufacturing site in Michigan, US, in 2024, producing durable, recyclable plastic-only closure caps.
Last August, Origin Materials partnered with Berlin Packaging to supply its portfolio of PET caps for beverage bottles, beginning with its 1881 closure model. It also partnered with Royal Hordijk Packaging, a Dutch plastic packaging producer, to mass-produce its PET bottle caps.
