SIG equips Slovenian dairy company with aluminum-free aseptic cartons

SIG has supplied its Terra MidiBloc Alu-free + Full barrier aseptic cartons to Pomurske Mlekarne. The relaunch of Pomurske Mlejko 2.8% low fat milk in SIG’s packaging material aims to offer full barrier protection without an aluminum layer.
SIG has removed the aluminum layer from its aseptic cartons to reduce its environmental impact and create a regenerative food packaging system. SIG’s Terra Alu-free + Full barrier packaging material is made from more than 80% paper, excluding the closure.

Improved coating tech
SIG’s Terra MidiBloc Alu-free + Full barrier cartons’ ultra-thin polymer coating serves as an alternative to the aluminum layer. The coating is designed to protect the product from oxygen, light, moisture, and aroma loss.
The packaging material is suitable for various products, including dairy products, juices, and plant-based beverages.
The SIG Terra Alu-free + Full barrier cartons can run on Pomurske Mlekarne’s existing SIG filling lines, without compromising the filling line’s performance, while facilitating the switch to the aluminum-free material.

Last year, SIG equipped Austrian dairy company SalzburgMilch with its DomeMini, an on-the-go carton bottle. The carton was said to be made with FSC-certified paperboard and was produced using renewable electricity.
