Signode designs stretch wrapper for “record-breaking” speed
Signode has launched the Octopus Prestige stretch wrapper for high-volume operations, offering “record-breaking speed.”
Based in Tampa, US, Signode is the global transit packaging division of Crown Holdings. The company has more than 80 manufacturing facilities and 7,000 employees globally.
“The Octopus Prestige stretch wrapper is more than just fast — it’s smart, efficient, and built to last,” says Jyri Lehtiö, business development director at Signode. “It’s the result of listening to our customers and delivering a solution that meets their real needs.”
Octopus Prestige has an operator-driven design that enables key benefits. Namely, the solutions’ wrapping speed can help facilities increase their throughput and meet their delivery schedules. Its TopDown service access is said to facilitate efficient maintenance at the floor level.
It features Signode’s Navigator HM interface with an intuitive layout and guided workflows. This allows first-time users to operate the machine, while presenting diagnostics, visual alerts, and customizable settings. The interface can also facilitate the work of operators and technicians by minimizing training time and maximizing productivity.
Stretch film innovation
The Octopus Prestige’s load stability is described as “superior.” Signode says it achieved this by enhancing flexibility and applying the correct containment force throughout the wrapping cycle.
The machine is built using the foundations of rotary ring technology.
According to Signode, the Octopus Prestige has simplified mechanics with fewer sensors and necessary adjustments than alternative solutions. This is said to improve uptime.
Another benefit of the stretch wrapper’s design is its reduced film usage, says the company. Its Double-S film carriage system can help improve film conversion, making the machine more sustainable overall.
Consumers can use the Octopus Prestige with Signode’s Mima Films portfolio for a “fully integrated system.”
Another recent stretch film innovation is the biodegradable, high-tear solution Solutum Technologies supplied to Pester Pac Automation.
In response to Chile’s EPR ambitions, ExxonMobil and Winpack developed a “high-performance” PCR stretch film.
Mondi presented its Ad/Vantage Stretch Wrap and Functional Barrier Paper range presented at Packaging Innovations 2025 in the UK. At the trade show, Packaging Insights discussed these innovations and industry demand with the company’s product manager for stretch wrap.
