JBM Packaging expands with new US paper packaging facility
Key takeaways
- JBM Packaging breaks ground on its Ohio, US, facility to expand packing and kitting operations.
- The new site will support long-term growth, reduce lead times, and create jobs through JBM’s Fair Chance Program.
- The expansion aligns with rising demand for sustainable paper packaging across F&B, personal care, and pharma sectors.
JBM Packaging has begun constructing a new 52,500 square foot building in Ohio, US. The facility will house JBM’s expanding packing and kitting operations, enabling the paper packaging company to scale its long-term growth opportunities.
JBM offers eco-friendly flexible packaging solutions, catering to the F&B, personal care, and pharmaceutical industries.
Marcus Sheanshang, president and CEO at JBM Packaging, says: “We’ve spent the past few years looking for the right place to grow, and ultimately, the answer was right in our backyard.”
“Building just down from our headquarters, we can stay rooted in the Lebanon community while creating the space we need to grow, strengthen our team, and better serve our customers.”
Paperization trend
The new facility will be built on previously undeveloped land, approximately one mile from JBM’s headquarters and will be split into two areas. JBM will lease one part — around 26,801 square feet — while the second space is available. Each unit will include two loading dock doors and a drive-in dock door.
Dan Puthoff, chief financial officer at JBM Packaging, says: “As our kitting and filling business has grown, space has become a challenge. This expansion helps us keep up with demand, shorten lead times, and welcome more team members through our Fair Chance Program. It’s a big step forward in carrying out our purpose of building better solutions, better lives, and a better world.”
Paper packaging is in demand as consumers increasingly favor recyclable solutions. For example, Great Earth, a Swedish supplement company, recently switched all its portfolio to paper closures, and Mondi equipped Ekornes with its paper-based re/cycle CompressWrap.
Packaging responsibly
JBM’s Fair Change Program is a prison-based program that trains machine adjusters in specialized paper packaging machinery at the London Correctional Institution in Ohio, US.
The scheme aims to provide hands-on paper packaging experience and “connect participants to employment upon release.”
Nearly one-third of JBM’s team members are employed through the program.
