Mondi has unveiled packaging made of brown kraftliner with white digital printing for Riedel Glas, a manufacturer of premium glassware headquartered in Austria. The solution supports the market launch of its All American Bourbon glass series.
The result of the collaboration is a recyclable packaging solution. The design features fine lines, small font sizes, and integrated QR codes, placing high demands on print quality.
Mondi utilizes high-performance digital printing, allowing “precise and consistent reproduction of complex graphic elements on uncoated brown substrates.”
“Digital printing is based on data-to-print technology and does not require printing plates. Instead, ink is applied directly to the material in fine droplets, allowing detailed reproduction and efficient production processes,” says Mondi.
High-contrast color
Recently, Packaging Insights spoke to Mondi about the growing demand for high-quality, multicolored printing on brown substrates, which underlines the ecological perception of paper packaging.
Mondi says its technology offers “high opacity and sharp edges,” achieving premium visual results on brown kraftliner, while providing additional functional advantages.
Different print images can be produced within a single order, supporting regional variants or targeted designs without additional set-up effort.
The design also includes serialized barcodes or QR codes, enabling individual packages to be uniquely identified along the supply chain, improving traceability and supporting automated processes.
Last month, Mondi expanded its paper bags business in Southeast Asia through a joint venture with PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, one of the largest cement producers in Indonesia.
Recently, Mondi introduced white ink to its digital printing range for corrugated packaging. It is said to achieve the same kind of contrast on brown corrugated board as they would on white.
