Key takeaways
- Mondi and Dreco have unveiled a sustainable powder detergent packaging solution, the re/loop PillowBag, made with 50% PCR content.
- The packaging solution is engineered for moisture-sensitive products, combining high-performance protection with recyclability, according to the companies.
- The solution, designed to meet PPWR targets, has been launched in retailers across Germany.

Mondi and Dreco have introduced a powder detergent packaging solution containing 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, while maintaining the product protection needed for moisture-sensitive products.
From January 1, 2030, the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will set a target of 35% PCR for this category of plastic packaging.
According to Mondi, its re/loop PillowBag is a solution where high levels of recycled content are integrated into flexible packaging for FMCG applications. With 50% recycled content, the re/loop PillowBag can meet PPWR targets and reduce the use of virgin plastics.
Sandor Kardos, managing director at Mondi Békéscsaba, Hungary, says: “This project shows how technical expertise and shared sustainability goals can deliver practical, scalable solutions. Together with Dreco, we have developed a high-PCR packaging solution for a moisture-sensitive application that is designed for recycling, helping our customer move ahead of regulation while meeting today’s market expectations.”
Supporting circular economy
Mondi applied a mass balance approach under its ISCC PLUS certification, allowing traceable allocation of PCR materials across its supply chain. This move aims to ensure transparency and traceability across operations.
The re/loop PillowBag is developed for recycling and has been evaluated according to Mondi’s Path to Circularity Scorecard and the Designing for a Circular Economy guidelines from the Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging. The structure is considered compatible with established polyolefin mechanical recycling streams.
The solution has also been engineered with end-consumer convenience in mind. The easy-opening bag supports practical handling and everyday usability, aligning with the packaging industry’s progress toward inclusive design.
The solution, which features high-quality print designs to improve shelf presence, has been launched in retailers across Germany.
Milo Drehsen, owner and managing director at Dreco, says: “Reducing the environmental impact of our packaging is a key priority for us, but performance is critical for products like powder detergent. Working with Mondi has enabled us to introduce a solution that combines high recycled content with the protection our products require.”
