rlc packaging group has recently begun producing eight new chocolate boxes with elaborate finishing for the Swiss chocolate brand Cailler by Nestlé. The packaging is distinguished by the artistic design and finishing, which reflect the quality of the brand. The boxes are designed with up to 14 UV printing inks using under-printing and overprinting and feature various types of finishing, including hot-foil printing in glossy gold or embossing. The premium chocolate bars are sold online and through selected premium sales outlets.

Part of the Nestlé portfolio, the Cailler brand dates back nearly 200 years and is known for high quality beyond Switzerland's borders. With the online retailer Amazon as its primary distribution partner, Nestlé sells the premium chocolate in the USA, UK and Germany. The exclusive chocolate is also available from selected retail outlets at international airports in Geneva, Zurich, Dubai and Singapore as well as from the Maison Cailler flag-ship store in Broc, Switzerland. To make a powerful impression on the international stage, the packaging conveys the premium character of the product inside.

"As engineering partner, we worked in close cooperation with Nestlé for about six months. We conducted multiple trials with different materials to come up with the best, truly unique solution," explains Klaus Volgmann, European Key Account Manager for Confectionery at rlc. "The packaging itself, as well as the choice of finishing, ensure a level of quality that is not adversely affected during the packing process or shipping." The surface has a slightly rough feel and attracts attention with a subtle sparkle – thanks to the use of Iriodin pigment. This does not affect the color brilliance and diversity in areas with photos or colored surfaces.

The folding box design was created by artist Marianne Dubuis. Using the traditional "découpage" cut-out technique, she created hand-made silhouettes depicting different details related to Cailler chocolate. These motifs include grazing dairy cows and a view of Maison Cailler company head-quarters. rlc then transferred these images to the packaging surface through relief and blind embossing. Moreover, the packaging is embellished with the company logo in hot-foil embossed gold.

Premium ingredients, years of tradition
rlc produces boxes for eight different Cailler chocolate bars. Four of them are from the "Art du Brut" collection, a series of chocolate bars blended with roasted nuts and dried fruit. The other four are used for L'Ecorce, thin chocolate tablets in various flavors. "The Cailler brand is backed by a long tradition. More than 400,000 visitors come to Broc each year to sample our chocolate," says Hanno Schatz, Brand Development Manager at Callier. "Now chocolate lovers in the USA, UK, Germany and soon in China can enjoy our remarkably creamy Swiss Cailler chocolate – and the pleasure begins the moment the packaging is opened."
