Lecta unveils recyclable metalized paper for frozen foods
Key takeaways
- Lecta has introduced Metalvac Ice Cream, a recyclable metalized paper designed for ice cream and frozen food packaging.
- The material provides a water-vapor barrier for wafer cone preservation, with low aluminum content (0.08 gsm).
- Available in 123 gsm, the paper supports offset, flexography, and rotogravure printing.
Lecta has developed Metalvac Ice Cream, a recyclable paper-based material with barrier properties suitable for ice cream packaging and other frozen products. The metalized paper is recyclable in paper and cardboard streams, in accordance with CEPI recyclability standards.
Metalvac Ice Cream is part of a range of metalized papers by Lecta, a specialist in paper-based packaging. The company describes the material as a more sustainable alternative to existing laminate solutions on the market.
The new paper material is available in 123 gsm and is suitable for printing in offset, flexography, and rotogravure on its metalized side.
Lecta says the material offers a water-vapor barrier that ensures the optimal preservation of ice cream wafer cones. “This, along with its excellent runnability, positions Metalvac Ice Cream as a reliable and efficient solution for industry packing lines,” says the company.
Metalvac Ice Cream has a low aluminum content of 0.08 gsm. Lecta says this contributes to achieving high barrier performance without compromising the material’s recyclability in paper recycling streams.
Metalized paper range
The Metalvac range includes different paper grades with heat-sealability properties and barriers to light, water vapor, oxygen, and aroma. The metalized paper materials are resistant to moisture and grease, but do not include added PFAS.
The high-vacuum metalized papers are all said to ensure runnability and adaptability to standard packing lines, important for efficiency throughout production.
The Metalvac range is produced following the Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety standards. It is also in compliance with environmental management standards ISO 14001 and EMAS, energy efficiency ISO 50001, quality ISO 9001, and occupational health and safety ISO 45001.
Upon request, the range is available with PEFC or FSC C011032 Chain of Custody forest certifications.
Last year, Lecta unveiled a PFAS-free label for greasy food products and a grease-resistant gloss paper for flexible packaging. It also expanded its Eracup range with new board grades.
