Avery Dennison has launched the Pathfinder Edge, a handheld label printer that enables faster operator labeling times.
The handheld label printer delivers up to 50% faster print speeds and 25% more battery life than prior Pathfinder generations, says Avery Dennison. It combines scanning, printing, and label operations into one device.
Michael Goller, VP for Digital Solutions at Avery Dennison, says: “Retail and logistics leaders face a difficult landscape as customer expectations grow while labor and margin demands tighten.”
“At the same time, many face the challenge of juggling multiple devices on the shop floor while tackling manual, error-prone workflows. That’s why we built Pathfinder Edge — to remove hassle and enable greater efficiency and accuracy.”

The solution can fit into modern data-driven operations and is said to be able to handle in-store and warehouse tasks like price marking, markdowns, and routing labels.
Other features of the Pathfinder Edge include a quick-scan trigger for rapid, accurate barcode capture, an intuitive interface, advanced connectivity with near field communication (NFC), WiFi 6e, Bluetooth, and predictive monitoring to prevent unplanned downtime.
Preventing food loss
It aims to address specific retail and logistics industry challenges, such as inaccurate labeling — which can result in misrouted shipments and failed deliveries — and food waste.
Avery Dennison marked the UN’s International Day of Zero Waste (March 30) with a report revealing how limited inventory control is contributing to “record levels” of meat loss. Another Avery Dennison report revealed that digital identity solutions in F&B packaging allow retailers to improve product traceability and cut food waste.
“Packaging innovation is at the heart of the solution to food waste, but it is most effective when combined with better forecasting and stronger supply chain management,” a spokesperson at Avery Dennison told Packaging Insights.
Meanwhile, the labeling solutions provider also expanded its range of NFC products with a flexible integrated circuit product line featuring Pragmatics Semiconductor’s chip.
In other printing developments, experts from Bobst, Mondi, Flint Group Digital Xeikon, and Xaar recently spoke to Packaging Insights about the cost realities of digital printing amid its continuing transformation of the industry.
In addition, Mondi unveiled packaging made of brown kraftliner with white digital printing for Riedel Glas, a manufacturer of premium glassware headquartered in Austria.
